About Whitley Bay Motorcycles
About: About
My name is David, and I am the founder and owner of Whitley Bay Motorcycles.
I’m originally from Sidcup, Kent but moved to the Northeast in 2015 to set up camp in Whitley Bay and start a family. Don’t worry, my wife is a Geordie so I have a green card!
In my previous life I was a landscape gardener with a very successful business, but after our first son was born my loving wife told me I could lay down my spade and be a stay-at-home dad, so I leapt at the chance. I’d had my motorbike licence for 9 years but apart from a Vespa, I’d never fully committed to a proper bike, life and other commitments just got in the way! I was so excited to leave grass laying and paving behind me that I traded my transit in for my first proper motorbike, AT LAST!
My wife likened the deal to selling a cow for magic beans but I’ll let you be the judge of that.
This is the Yamaha bumblebee, my first proper motorbike!

In between nappy changes and wiping up cheesy dribble, I managed to get out and enjoy Northumberland on my bike and I fell back in love with biking. I couldn’t put a value on what it gave me in relation to freedom and mental relief, and these were things I didn’t even realise I needed! The roads across Northumberland are amazing to ride, the coast gives incredible views when you take a pitstop, as does the rolling countryside. The Northumberland 250 is a great route and Scotland and the NC500 are just on our doorstep! We are truly spoilt in this part of the world!
I started dreaming of sharing this experience with others but as with any hobby or interest, it can seem daunting to join a new ‘gang’. Anyone who has been around bikers will know that “guy” who mocks everything from your chicken fillets (nothing to do with bras!) to your mismatched biking gear and I wanted to stay well away from that image and character. I want to build a fully inclusive and welcoming community of bikers and enthusiasts who are excited to go to cool places, on amazing machines, on great roads.
So, in summary (I’m a terminal rambler)…
I’m a father of three who has built gardens for the last 20 years and now I’m renting motorbikes and leading tours around Gods own country because basically motorbikes rock! Join the adventure…
